What is it? Carnelian is a type of Chalcedony, which is a type of Quartz.  Other types of crystals in the same family include Agate, Tiger’s Eye, Ones, Jasper, Bloodstone, and Aventurine. 

How to identify Carnelian: Colors can range from clear to translucent, vibrant orange,  red-brown, pale orange to pink, and even almost black.  Carnelian stones contain squiggling lines that look like veins, which come from iron inclusions within the crystal. 

Uses for Carnelian can be dated back to Ancient Egypt to protect the dead in their ascent to the afterlife.  It is said to not only be a stone of protection, courage, and strength, but to promote success, good luck, love, motivation, and passion.         

Spiritual & metaphysical uses for Carnelian: protection against jealousy, psychic attack, and lower vibrational energies.  It is said to increase motivation to pursue passions, and in turn, attracting prosperity & success.  Carnelian increases the energy of your personal power, determination, and encourages you to be bold, increasing creativity, and finding joy in life.  When used in a healing session, Carnelian is a great crystal to use for past-life healing, and issues related to the Sacral & Root Chakras.  Carnelian is a wonderful stone for grounding and assists you to be present during meditation.          

Physical purposes & uses for Carnelian: As a stone of vitality, Carnelian is most used for increasing energy, physical strength, and endurance by assisting in releasing stagnant energy causing lethargy.  Carnelian removes energetic blocks that inhibit mental clarity, decisiveness, and concentration.  It is said that Carnelian works to heal and increase the reproductive system by stimulating fertility, libido, and repairing the reproductive organs.  Since the backside of the Sacral Chakra is the lower back, placing Carnelian on the lower back and/or on the front of the Sacral Chakra is said to help with lower back pain.  Carnelian is said to regulate the organs of the body, especially the spleen, liver, kidneys, and bladder, but also harmonizes the circulation system: increasing circulation and balancing blood pressure.  Additionally, Carnelian is said to fight symptoms of PMS, menopause, reduce nosebleeds, and varicose veins.  This crystal has been known to treat arthritis, and other bone-related ailments such as healing the bones themselves, ligaments, and scoliosis.  Carnelian may be a great crystal to work with if you are looking to increase metabolism and detox the body.  For those who suffer from asthma and allergies, Carnelian has been said to reduce symptoms and provide lasting relief.    

Emotional healing with Carnelian: This crystal has been known to assist in healing anxiety, depression, emotional crisis, overcome all types of abuse, anger, fear, jealousy, negative thoughts & behavioral patterns, and eating disorders, by releasing these types of energies and restoring them back to balance with feelings of self-love, happiness, positivity, confidence, trust, and motivation.
